Apply 2-6" of bedding to your pet's home. Remove damp spots or soiled areas between changes and replace with fresh bedding.
Clean the cage completely once a week by scrubbing the bottom of the cage and soiled accessories with warm water and a gentle soap and replacing dirty litter and bedding.
Rinse and dry everything completely before returning it to the cage.
As with any changes to your pet's care, you should observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if you pet ingests a significant amount of any type of bedding. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.
What types of fiber do you use to make your pet bedding?
carefresh® is a sustainable product made from reclaimed cellulose paper fiber obtained directly from partnerships with tissue and paper manufacturers. We use 100% non-post-consumer good materials that may otherwise go to landfills.
Why is there a color difference and wood content in the pet bedding?
Variations in product, color, texture and size can occur due to our commitment to using sustainable materials to protect the future of our planet.
What kind of dyes are used to make the colors? Are they safe for my pet?
When selecting colors to go into our products we choose those with a history of human use like those used in bath and facial tissue. They have been tested by 3rd party labs to be safe for use with animals.
What ingredient makes carefresh control odor? Is it safe?
Our goal is to provide the most wholesome environment possible for your pet. The exact formula is proprietary but the additives used in our products are approved in the use of treating drinking water. They have been tested by 3rd party labs using NIH (National Institutes of Health) testing protocol for animal safety.
Can I use the pet bedding for my turtle, snake, other reptile or bird?
carefresh® is developed and manufactured specifically for certain small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, chinchillas, hedgehogs and ferrets). We recommend checking with your local vet first before using it for other species. As with any changes to your pet's care, if you do use it be sure to observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if your pet ingests a significant amount of any type of bedding. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.
What makes the white bedding white? Is there bleach?
No. The materials we use for our whites and colored paper bedding products are derived from paper reclaimed from tissue mills and/or paper that is 'not white enough' for copy paper. The paper does not receive any bleaching steps by Healthy Pet. Our suppliers use ECF (elemental chlorine-free) processes for whitening.
Are any animals used in the testing of your products?
Our company adamantly chooses not to test our products on any animals. Products are evaluated by third party labs using NIH (National Institute of Health) testing protocol for animal safety without the use of live animals.
Why has the useable volume changed?
For products that are compressed like bedding, there are new regulations that require manufactures to label as the actual "expanded" volume; however, we are no longer allowed to say compressed or expanded and have replaced it with the acceptable term "useable". The useable volume is the total amount of bedding in liters once the package is opened.
Are your bags recyclable?
Yes, but not in the usual consumer recycling bins. It is a number 4 LDPE bag and must be recycled at a proper bag recycling drop off (some grocery stores have them).
Is the bedding compostable?
Yes, you can compost carefresh® bedding. However, fecal matter in concentrations can take a long time to compost or pose health risks. Please check with composting experts on how to most safely compost pet litters.
What can I do if I have a problem with the bag of bedding I purchased?
If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, return it, along with your sales receipt to point of purchase for a full refund in accordance with retailer policies.
Are pine shavings harmful to my pet?
There is a lot of controversy around the evidence of any harmful effects from pine. To ensure animal safety, we screen our shavings to remove dust and we test our shavings to validate that our drying and kilning procedures leave non-detectable levels of volatile oils. If you have further concern, we recommend checking with your small pet's veterinarian.
What happens if my small animal pet eats bedding?
It is not unusual for an animal to eat some of their bedding out of curiosity or habit, regardless of the type of bedding. As with any changes to your pet's care, you should observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if you pet ingests a significant amount of any type of bedding. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.
